Clarity
The Clarity grade of a diamond provides an explanation of how free the gem is from blemishes or inclusions. Most diamonds have at least some small blemish or inclusion.
Those that are completely free of these defects are extremely rare and are known as Flawless. In these diamonds nothing interferes with the passage of light nor spoils the beauty.
Inclusions are defects that are enclosed in the diamond or extend from the surface into the diamond itself. Blemishes are confined to the diamond’s surface. Fewer inclusions and blemishes results in a higher clarity grade. To determine a diamond’s clarity grading, it must be examined under a 10x magnification by a trained, skilled eye. What minute inclusions there may be make every diamond unique. These are, in fact, natures fingerprints and do not mar the diamond’s beauty nor endanger its durability. Without high magnification, you may never see these inclusions. However, the fewer there are, the rarer your diamond will be.
GIA AGS Image Description
FL – IF 0 FL to IF Clarity Diamond Flawless and Internally Flawless
Flawless: No inclusions or blemishes of any sort under 10X magnification.

Internally Flawless: No inclusions, but some minor blemishes.
VVS1-VVS2 1 – 2 VVS1 to VVS2 Clarity Diamond Very Very Slightly included
Contains minute inclusions that are very difficult to see under 10X magnification.
VS1 – VS2 3 – 4 VS1 to VS2 Clarity Diamond Very Slightly included
Contains minute inclusions when observed with effort under 10X magnification. An excellent value as there is no noticeable difference to the unaided eye from VVS.
SI1 – SI2 5 – 6 SI1 to SI2 Clarity Diamond Slightly Included
Contains inclusions noticeable under 10x magnification. An SI1 should not have any eye visible inclusions, but SI2 may, depending on the size and location of the flaws.
I1 7 I1 Clarity Diamond
Included
Contains inclusions that are obvious under 10X magnification and possibly to the unaided eye.
I2 – I3 8 – 9 I2 to I3 Clarity Diamond Included
Contains inclusions that are obvious under 10X magnification and possibly to the unaided eye.

Remember, inclusions and blemishes are not always a problem. Sometimes they can be hidden by a prong or other times are in a place on the diamond that does not interfere with its beauty.
